Can't We All Just Get Along?

 You mention politics.

Or morals.
Or literally anything on social media.

Suddenly, everyone’s an expert.
Voices get louder.
Caps lock comes out.
Nobody learns a thing.

Classic.

Everyone Already “Did the Research”

By “research,” we mean:

  • A headline

  • A meme

  • A TikTok with dramatic music

That’s it.
Decision made.

Once people lock in a belief, facts become optional.
Contrary info? Fake.
Different opinion? Attack.

This is not thinking.
This is defending.

Social Media: The World’s Loudest Echo Chamber

Social media isn’t built to inform you.
It’s built to keep you scrolling.

Algorithms show you what you already agree with.
Over.
And over.
And over again.

After a while, it feels like everyone thinks the same way.

Spoiler: they don’t.
You’re just trapped in a bubble.

Nuance doesn’t get likes.
Outrage does.
Confidence wins.
Doubt loses.

And no one ever clicks the source anyway.

Step One: Stop Correcting People

Want to end a conversation fast?

Say:
“Actually, you’re wrong.”

Conversation over.

Instead, try curiosity.
It’s weird.
But it works.

Ask:
“How did you get there?”
“Where did you see that?”

People love explaining themselves.
Let them.

Please Stop Attacking Identity

Beliefs are personal.

Attack the belief, and people hear:
“You’re stupid.”
“You’re a bad person.”
“You’re the problem.”

They will not listen after that.

Try this instead:
“I get why someone might think that.”
“We may see this differently.”

Congrats.
You just kept the door open.

Use “How” and “What”

Not “Why”

“Why” sounds like a courtroom drama.

“How” sounds like interest.

Compare these:

  • “Why would you believe that?” ❌

  • “How did you come to that conclusion?” ✅

Same question.
Very different reaction.

Admit You Don’t Know Everything

Shocking, Right?

Nothing scares people like someone who is certain.

Try humility.
It’s underrated.

Try saying:
“I’m still figuring this out.”
“I used to think differently.”

Now it’s a conversation.
Not a TED Talk.

You’re Not Changing Minds Today

Let it go.

You are not the hero of this debate.
No one is having an awakening in your comment section.

Plant a thought.
Ask a question.
Walk away.

People change their minds alone.
Usually at 2 a.m.
While staring at the ceiling.

The Real Problem

Social media taught us to fight.
To win.
To clap back. To go viral.

It did not teach us to listen.

Being right feels good.
Understanding feels better.

Final Thought

You don’t change minds by yelling facts.

You change minds by not making people feel stupid.

Wild concept.
I know.

So…
Can’t we all just get along?

Probably not.
But we could at least stop screaming into the internet.
